If you eat – agriculture is part of your life.
That’s why I love Discover Agriculture in the City. A free, three-day event that offers a glimpse inside one of our most important industries. This weekend is about learning and discovering through interactive exhibits, presentations, activities and cooking demonstrations.
This year’s events will be happening in Winnipeg from Friday, March 15 to Sunday, March 17 at the Forks Market.
Why not see what’s new, meet and talk to local farmers, discover new recipes, learn about the science and innovation in agriculture and attend various cooking demonstrations.
I’m excited not only to attend this year, but also to be the emcee and a presenter on Sunday, March 17. It’s going to be fun-filled, informative day for the whole family.
Here’s a quick look at Sunday’s activities:

Join Adriana Barros from the Farm to School Manitoba Healthy Choice Fundraiser as she explains this unique fundraiser and leads the audience through three engaging activities including decorating Mr. Cabbage Head, an onion race and a demonstration of a Made-in-Manitoba veggie soup. Join in on the action!
12:30 pm – 1:30 pm Getty Stewart – Enjoying Prairie Fruit
Join me as I share my passion and enthusiasm for growing, harvesting, sharing and using prairie fruit. You’ll be surprised to discover the amazing fruit we can grow in our very own backyards and how easy it is to join in harvesting existing fruit. Of course, there’ll be some fun and games too with a rousing game of Prairie Fruit Jeopardy and a friendly apple peeling competition.

You’ll enjoy Chef Mary-Jane’s passion for creating local, healthy food that makes you fall in love with food all over again. You’ll hear from Manitoba food researcher about their latest research into the health benefits of food grown right here in Manitoba. Chef Mary Jane will take those foods (saskatoons, carrots, peas, etc.) and turn them into delicious dishes your family will love. You won’t want to miss these recipes!
3:30 pm – 4:00 pm Game Show – Survey Says
Have you heard about the Manitoba Consumer Monitor Food Panel? Find out more about this online survey that asks questions about Manitobans’ opinions, preferences and experiences with food and health. You’ll get to discover some of the latest research findings in the Survey Says game show. Even the kids will have fun with this one.
You’ll be glad you came!
