Cooking with seasonal food just makes sense. It tastes better, costs less, and supports more sustainable choices. And when there are others supporting us – well that just makes it a lot more fun! That’s why I’m excited to invite you to join the monthly Seasonal Cooking Challenge, where we can cook together using a featured Canadian Produce of the Month.

What is the Seasonal Cooking Challenge?
Each month, I’ll choose a seasonal produce and invite you to cook with it in whatever way works best for you. Make a recipe you already love, try something new, or tweak a meal you cook all the time. Share what you did and be eligible for the monthly prize.
Throughout the month, I’ll share helpful tips for how to select, store and save that veggie so you can enjoy it to the fullest. And of course, I’ll share tasty recipes too!
The goal is simple:
- Explore seasonal ingredients.
- Share favourite ideas and variations.
- Build confidence in the kitchen.
- Have fun cooking together.

How it Works
- Watch for the featured ingredient, tips and annoucncements via my weekly newsletter. Subscribe here.
- Cook with this month’s featured ingredient. Choose any recipe you wish.
- Let me know what you made with the ingredient and how it went. Photos are welcome, but not required. You can:
- Enter using this form: Challenge Entry Form
- All eligible submissions will be entered into a random draw at the end of the month.
- Winners will be announced when the new ingredient of the month is revealed in the newsletter.

April Challenge: CUCUMBERS
Winner – Congratulations to Janet F. from Bridgewater, NS. Janet made a lentil salad with cucumbers – just one of many salads she likes to made with cucumbers in April. I love the sound of a hearty, fibre rich salad like that!
March Challenge: ONIONS
Winner – Congratulations to Jeannette S. from Sherwood Park, AB. Jeannette made French Onion Sourdough Bread to go with her French Onion Soup with maple syrup. Sounds so good – I’ll see if we can get her recipe!
February Challenge: CABBAGE
Winner – Congratulations to Lorraine G. from Oakbank, Manitoba. Lorraine used a bag of coleslaw mix and noodles to create her own version of this One Pan Egg Roll recipe.
January Challenge: ORANGES
Winner – Congratulations to Tressa A. from Winnipeg. Tressa used oranges and grapefruit for a variation of the orange salad with mint. Way to go Tressa!
Official Rules – Getty’s Seasonal Cooking Challenge Prize Draw
- Eligibility: Open to residents of Canada, 18 years or older.
- Entry Period: Entries will be accepted from the first day through the last day of each calendar month.
- How to Enter:
a) Cook any dish using the featured ingredient of the month.
b) Submit your entry via OUR OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM
c) Each person may submit one entry per month. - Prize: One prize package awarded per month. Prize details and approximate value will be listed above on this challenge page.
- Winner Selection: Winners are selected by random draw from all eligible entries received by 11:59 pm on the last day of the month.
- Winner Notification: Winners will be contacted via email and announced on the Seasonal Cooking Challenge page when the new featured ingredient is announced. Winners must agree to having their first name and last initial posted on the challenge page, email and social media.
- Odds: Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
- No Purchase Necessary: No purchase is necessary to enter or win. A purchase will not increase an entrant’s chance of winning.
- Privacy: By entering, participants agree that their first name and last initial may be announced on the challenge page, newsletter and social media. Personal information will not be shared publicly.
