Quick and Easy Feta Flatbread Appetizers – Three Styles
You NEED these feta flatbread appetizers in your life! They have quickly become a family favourite and I can’t wait to share them with friends next time we’re safely enjoying a backyard fire. I know they’ll be devoured in seconds.
These feta flatbread appetizers are all the things I look for in an appetizer – quick, easy, affordable and super tasty. Simply spread feta on your favourite flatbread, bake and sprinkle on your favourite topping. Toppings can be as simple as dried oregano or fresh herbs to more complex toppings like cucumbers and tomatoes, caramelized onions, artichokes, roasted red peppers, olives, spinach, chickpeas, chicken, arugula with nuts and fruit, etc. The options are endless!
If you’re in Winnipeg – try this recipe with the new Chaeban Artisan feta, you’re going to love it! You can use their firm or creamy style feta for this recipe. My personal favourite is the soft creamy feta – it spreads so nicely and the flavour is a perfect balance of salty and tangy.

What is Chaeban Artisan Feta Like?
Feta is an unripened, soft cheese that’s cured and kept in a brine made of salt and water. It is white, salty and tangy with a creamy or crumbly texture. Compared to other cheeses, it’s low in calories and fat.
Traditionally, feta is made with sheep milk or goat milk but it can also be made with cow’s milk, which is how Chaeban Artisan feta is made. Cow’s milk gives feta a slightly milder flavour, which I LOVE because it makes it so much more versatile and easy to use. Before we had Chaeban feta, we only used feta for Greek salad and a few occasional recipes, now, feta has become a staple because even the kids love it.
How Long Will Feta Keep?
For best quality and longest shelf life, always buy feta in brine. The brine not only extends shelf life, but it also maintains the flavour and creamy texture of feta. Feta sold in packages without brine will have a much shorter shelf life and must be used with 5-7 days once opened.
Unopened Feta in Brine: One to two weeks past Best Before Date. And that Best Before Date gives you lots of time to eat your feta. My current package of Chaeban Feta has a Best Before Date of Feb 2022 and it’s March 2021!
Opened Feta in Brine: Once opened, keep remaining feta in the brine, covered, in the fridge for 4-6 weeks.
Freeze Feta – Did you know that you can freeze feta? Just remove from the brine, pat dry, wrap really well in plastic wrap and place in freezer bag and store in the freezer for up to six months. The texture will be a little less firm, but it will still taste great in your favourite recipes.
PRO TIP: Always use a clean utensil when dipping into the feta container to prevent contamination. Cracker crumbs in the feta is a no no!
