Getty Stewart is a Professional Home Economist, Getty received her Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Human Ecology from the University of Manitoba. Getty has operated her own training and consulting business since 1997. In 2012 she started a grass-roots volunteer organization called Fruit Share. At it's height Getty led a crew of 200+ volunteers to rescue fruit growing in people's back yards. She presented a TedX talk about the program in 2012. It was during this time she started speaking, writing and presenting on how to use seasonal produce. Since then Getty has worked with government, non-profit and private organizations speaking and writing about using and enjoying local, seasonal food. Getty has worked with numerous commodity groups and is currently working with LoveFoodHateWaste Canada, the Manitoba Cooperator, Manitoba Chicken, Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers, Great Tastes of Manitoba, What About Wheat, Canada Food Focus, Half Your Plate Canada, and others to write articles, create resources and develop recipes featuring Canadian food. Getty completed the National Center for Home Food Preservation's Master Food Preserver program and keeps her Canadian Food Safety Handling Certificate current.
